Iceland definitely seems to be one of the more popular destinations in the last year! I’ve seen so many posts about it. The Blue Lagoon looks amazing, I would love to see it in person. And of course, the Northern Lights are a dream of mine!
Well done only seeing the northern lights, so many people miss them and they are one of the natural wonders of the world! I had a similar 3 days to you in Reykjavik and arrived from the UK at Keflavik airport. The food was expensive but staying in an apartment and making your own food saved lots of money!
Looks like you made the best use of your time possible – a tour was definitely the way to go! You took lovely photos of the waterfalls. I’m going in a few weeks – I knew the food was expensive but didn’t think it would be that much!
The weather wasn’t with me so the pictures were really dark and even after a lot of editing they are still not as good as they could be, but I hope they still help in a way to imagine your time there. Have fun when you go!
This is such a useful post if you don;t have much time to spend in Iceland. I’m planning on going as a stop over on my way to the UK from the USA soon and this is going to be so useful for me. I so want to see The Wall!
That really does look wonderful. It’s so nice to see an Iceland post for a long weekend. Food sounds pretty extreme too! Puffin? I’d probably give it a try but not sure would be that excited about it!
I’ve always wanted to visit Iceland! My husband visited there one December about 12 years ago, and I’ve wanted to go ever since. We now live in Australia so it’s a bit harder than the trip across the water from the UK. The local cuisine sounds very interesting indeed! I’m not sure if I would be brave enough to try puffin either! The supermarkets do sound pretty expensive, so I can only imagine what eating out must cost! The fire and ice description is very true – it seems like such a great place to take kids who are interested in volcanoes and geology. Great summary of what to expect in Iceland
Very detailed and informative post about Iceland. Blue Lagoon looks so tempting. Geyser hot spring & Haukadalur geothermal area is interesting as in this land of ice it is miracle to have hot water springs.
I have desperate to go to Iceland but only have two more days of annual leave to take. So I am absolutely thrilled to have discovered your blog. I have honestly just shown my husband your itinerary and we are just hunting for flights now!
I love your photo of Gulfoss! I’ve been twice and never seemed to be able to get a photo of the waterfall from that angle (it was freezing cold both times I went so we got in and out pretty quickly). There is some pretty delicious Icelandic food – I went on a food tour with Wake Up Reykjavik when I was there and we tried a ton of local cuisines that actually tasted good (no fermented shark), so I’d recommend that if you go back :)
Oh it was so difficult for me to take a picture of Gulfoss! It was pouring down rain and I had my raincoat on top of me and somehow I was trying to protect my camera from the rain. It was a lucky shot! Would definitely give Icelandic food another try, thanks for the recommendation! :)

Yes it’s becoming quite popular and for many good reasons. :)

Yes we truly felt lucky with the Northern lights!

Yes you are a bit far from Iceland, but on the other hand you are very close to so many other exciting and slightly warmer destinations in Asia :)
