Welcome to My Food & Happiness!
My name is Monika and I created My Food & Happiness to share delicious, wholesome recipes and adventurous trips with you. I am what you would call a “digital nomad”. I work from home full-time as a Senior IT Business Analyst, as part of the magical Walt Disney company and part-time on this blog during my spare time.
This blog was created when I lived in London for about 7 years. I now live back home in Bulgaria but for several years I used to work in the heart of Soho as part of 20th Century Fox. Soho sparked my love for food and led to the creation of this digital space. I loved the abundance of ever-changing food places. In Soho you can have a Sicilian cannelloni, a fresh traditional falafel, a delicious curry and many, many other international dishes in a small area of about 1 square mile. An international food heaven!
My Food & Happiness is now visited by tens of thousands of readers from across the world every month. I love sharing vegan and vegetarian recipes as well as lots of travel destination guides, tips and videos.
I am passionate about healthy eating and I love taking pictures of food that will make you drool. I am forever seeking the truth about all types of foods out there and the true meaning of a healthy and happy lifestyle. I believe that we should all be on a real food diet (free from processed food), without going to extremes and still be able to enjoy food we love. I am not a nutritionist, nor a professional chef, but I don’t believe you need a degree to have knowledge on subjects you are passionate about.
My food
I don’t like to restrict the variety of food I can have, so I am neither vegetarian nor vegan but I am a believer in a plant-powered diet. The best way to describe my diet is pescatarian. I eat mostly high-protein vegetarian and vegan food and occasionally fish/seafood meals. When travelling, I might eat more fish than usual if it plays a key part in the local cuisine and I know it was sourced locally.
This is why most of the recipes on this blog are vegetarian or vegan. You will also find a few pescatarian (fish) recipes and lots of no-bake sweet treats in my recipe index here.
I try to enjoy simple natural foods in a balanced way, not as a temporary diet. No calorie counting, just real food that is delicious and makes me happy.
If this is your first time here, I suggest starting from this article – Healthy eating and how to start, it covers my view of what I believe “healthy eating” really means and it will also take you through all the sections of the website.
My Happiness
I have to admit that when this blog was started, I was a little bit more passionate about food. I love creating recipes but recipes are created in the kitchen, while travel posts are created on the beach! Now, my slightly-stronger passion and happiness is travelling and exploring the world! I dream of endless, crazy and beautiful trips. I love exploring new destinations throughout the world and capturing their uniqueness with my camera. Me and my husband particularly love road trips and exploring untouched, remote beaches when visiting a sunny destination, like our trip to Sardinia. Any new destination sparks my curiosity and desire to explore and I also like to discover destinations through food (check out my Culinary guide to Aruba). Have a look at the blog’s travel section where you can get some travel inspiration.
I often do food photography and provide exposure to restaurants, tourism boards and hotels I work with. If you would like to partner with me to create a recipe with your product or feature your hotel, experience or destination on the blog, have a look at this page for more information on how we can partner.
